Wind Power Ordinances Take Shape

WALKER — Wind-generated electricity isn't exactly a gold rush in northern Kent and Ottawa counties, but there is definitely a rush on. The rushing is by city, township and county officials trying to get a handle on what will be allowed within their jurisdictions, even as they field a growing number of requests from people and companies interested in installing electricity-producing wind turbines, known as WECS: wind energy conversion systems. Some state Republican lawmakers are proposing to temporarily eliminate Michigan's sales tax on gasoline for the summer driving season. The proposal would cut the 6 percent sales tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but wouldn't cut the state's 19-cent-per-gallon gasoline tax that's used for road construction and maintenance. There also is talk of a summertime break from the federal gasoline tax. The proposals are:
A good idea, assisting the economy and my business bottom line.
A bad idea, having no effect on the economy or my business.
