When the U.S. Department of Commerce honored Kindel Furniture Co. last week for its recent success at entering the Japanese market — part of a World Trade Week-West Michigan VIP gala reception Monday night at Gerald R. Ford Museum — some insightful comments were aired by Kindel President Jonathan Smith. Smith accepted the Export Achievement Certificate, an award created by the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service, to recognize small and medium-sized enterprises for successfully entering a new international market.

Wind Energy Group Opposes Michigan Energy Legislation
The American Wind Energy Association and seven of its members, including a world-wide developer of commercial wind farms that is leasing wind rights in northern Kent and Ottawa counties, have told Michigan government leaders that the energy legislation before the Michigan Senate will "jeopardize at least $2 billion of new investment in wind energy projects under development in the state."

Wind Power Ordinances Take Shape
WALKER — Wind-generated electricity isn't exactly a gold rush in northern Kent and Ottawa counties, but there is definitely a rush on. The rushing is by city, township and county officials trying to get a handle on what will be allowed within their jurisdictions, even as they field a growing number of requests from people and companies interested in installing electricity-producing wind turbines, known as WECS: wind energy conversion systems.
