Maatman appointed to Land Conservancy

Vaughn Maatman will replace Brian Obits as executive director of the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, effective Feb. 13. Obits is the organization’s development officer and has been serving as interim executive director. Maatman most recently served as executive director of Lake Louise Christian Community, Camp and Retreat Center in Boyne Falls. The LCWM is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

ACCOUNTING
Echelbarger, Himebaugh, Tamm & Co. PC announced that Margie S. Gerencer, CPA, has been promoted to client service manager. She will be responsible for managing client relationships and workload, and will work with business owners as an advisor and tax consultant.

Associates Rachel Kessler and Nate King have joined the firm Dolinka, VanNoord & Co. PLLP.

ADVERTISING & MARKETING
Full Circle Marketing and Design appointed Amy Heiney account executive. She joins the Grand Rapids-based firm with more than 20 years of experience in visual and written communications, marketing, account and project management.

Alexander Marketing has named Lisa Engleman its newest account director. Engleman will leverage marketing assets to direct strategy and day-to-day workflows for B2B accounts.

ASSOCIATIONS
John Sabin, Sabin Valuation Group, is the 2012 immediate past president of the Appraisal Institute’s Great Lakes Chapter.

Bob Nykamp, COO and vice president of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, was elected to the board of trustees of the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems. The appointment is for a three-year term and is the second time Nykamp has been elected to serve.

AWARDS
SportsEvents Media Group has awarded a Reader’s Choice Award to Grand Rapids and the West Michigan Sports Commission based on their high standard of professionalism and quality service in hosting youth and amateur sporting events.

BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION
The U.S. Green Building Council West Michigan Chapter announced its 2012 officer elections: chair, Kris Ford; vice chair, Steve Hassevort; treasurer, Cheri Holman; and secretary, Victor Tvedten. Current board members are Earl Eddy, Lynda Boomer, Scott Veine, Dennis Bekken, David Rinard and Renae Hesselink.

BUSINESS SERVICES
The Better Business Bureau of Western Michigan announced that Eric Mills, senior vice president/business banking market manager at Huntington National Bank, is the 2012 board chair.

Code Blue Corp. of Holland has announced David Cook as chief operating officer. Cook will be responsible for expanding endpoint communication stations to include a software-based Managed Emergency Communications System.

Critical Market Solutions Inc, a Michigan corporation since 1999, has relocated its corporate offices in Grand Rapids from the Birmingham, Ala., area. Fred Lyons, president and CEO, announced the transition, emphasizing the company’s continued focus on providing outsourced sales and marketing expertise for health care companies.

FINANCIAL SERVICES
Discovery Financial LLC announced the recent expansion of its full-service wealth management company in Hastings. The company started in 2002 and has its home office in Ada.

Glen Kocheney has joined private investment bank Corporate Equity Inc. as managing director of mergers and acquisitions with a focus on companies in health care information systems and durable medical devices. Corporate Equity is headquartered in Grand Rapids.

EDUCATION
Baker College has appointed Beth Nuccio system director of career services. Nuccio is the liaison between career services and all other Baker system departments to provide feedback on the employment viability of new and existing programs.

GRANTS
The Downtown Holland Principal Shopping District has received a grant for $4,000 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Holland Area Arts Council to support the 2012 Street Performer Series.

The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation has received a $300,000 grant from the Sligh Memorial Fund, a donor advised fund of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation. The grant will be used to renovate the lobby of the main library in preparation for technology upgrades, including the implementation of a radio frequency identification system in the building.

HEALTH
Bronson LakeView Family Care has hired Jeffery Libra, M.D. Libra’s special interests include health and wellness, geriatrics and chronic disease management. Bronson Internal Medicine Associates has hired Madhu Batchu, M.D. Batchu’s special interests are preventive care, health education and chronic disease management.

North Ottawa Community Health Systems has added Mark Szewczyk, M.D., to the medical staff. Specializing in otolaryngology, Szewczyk’s office is located in the Dunewood Medical Building, 1310 Wisconsin, Suite 200, in Grand Haven.

HUMAN SERVICES
Tony Grossa of Graves & Co. and Andy Rent of The River 100.5 Morning Show have joined the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Kent County board of directors. Also, Jennifer Pascua of WZZM TV-13 has joined the marketing committee.

INSURANCE
Van Wyk Risk & Financial Management has been named by Affinity Insurance Ltd. as one of its top-five agencies worldwide. Van Wyk also announced that Matthew Capel has joined the company as a commercial client executive. Capel will work closely with client managers to deliver risk management solutions.

HNI Risk Services in Grand Rapids has hired Kateri Schutt, account manager. She will be responsible primarily for maintaining and expanding client relationships.

LEGAL
Foster Swift Collins and Smith PC announced the election of three new shareholders: attorneys Thomas TerMaat and Jennifer Van Regenmorter of the Grand Rapids office, and Samuel Frederick of the Lansing office.

Scott A. Hughes has become an associate of Mika Meyers Beckett & Jones PLC. Hughes practices civil litigation, as well as environmental and energy and natural resources law.

MANUFACTURING
Perrigo announced that Bruce D. Johnson has been named vice president, consumer health care research and development. Johnson will lead new product development for Perrigo’s U.S. consumer health care business, based in Allegan, with responsibilities at research sites in New Jersey and India.

PUBLIC SERVICE
Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of George ‘Jay” Quist to the Kent County Probate Court, where he will be assigned to serve in the Circuit Court’s Family Division. The appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Nanaruth Carpenter.

Jeanne Englehart has been appointed to the Early Childhood Investment Corp. by Gov. Rick Snyder. Englehart is the executive director of the Grand Rapids Child Development Center and founder of Productivity Point International, a computer training business.

Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Annoesjka Steinman of Muskegon to the Natural Resources Commission. The seven-member commission works with the Michigan DNR.

REAL ESTATE
Jeremy Veenstra has joined NAI Wisinski of West Michigan as a service provider and will specialize in office sales and leasing as well as investment sales. Dan Wiarda has been hired as a member of the property management team and will manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable of property management clients. Shane Ikola has been hired as a marketing service provider.

TECHNOLOGY
The Michigan office of Perficient Inc., an information technology consulting firm, announced it has expanded its presence to West Michigan, establishing a business-technology consulting team in the Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Lansing areas.

TRANSPORTATION
Rothbury Executive Air and Florida-based Silver Lining Inflight Catering announced a new partnership. Rothbury is scheduled to open a fixed base operation in fall o2012 at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. The $7 million world-class facility will include 34,000 square feet of hangar space and 2,400 square feet for a full-service catering kitchen. This new location provides Silver Lining with the opportunity to expand its catering expertise to the Midwest.

TRAVEL & TOURISM
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi announced that tribal council vice chairman Jamie P. Stuck has been named chairman of the FireKeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board.
