LANSING — The Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) chose the Grand Rapids Griffins broadcasts on WOOD-AM 1300 as the best secondary-market sports radio program at its 2002 Broadcast Excellence Awards held last week in Lansing.

The MAB credited Griffins play-by-play announcer Bob Kaser with having the best live commentary in the state's medium-sized markets. Kaser joined the Griffins nearly two years ago as executive director of broadcasting for DP Fox Sports and Entertainment. He spent ten seasons directing communications for the Kansas City Blades and twice was named the IHL Broadcaster of the Year before coming to DP Fox.

"This award would not have been possible without the resources I've been provided by the Griffins and WOOD radio," said Kaser, who works with Don McSween and Larry Figurski on the Griffins radio broadcasts.

DP Fox and Amway executive David VanAndel own the Griffins, while Clear Channel Broadcasting owns WOOD-AM 1300.
