CASCADE — Cascade Township has decided to become a full member of the Grand Valley Metro Council. The township board voted to make that move a few weeks ago.

“We are eager to participate in the council,” said Jay Cravens, manager of Cascade Township. “It’s about time we were there at the table as a full member.”

The Metro Council is expected to approve Cascade’s application on Thursday. Then council members will vote separately on the matter at their respective board meetings.

Cascade has participated in transportation planning and storm water activities with the Metro Council, and is a founding member of the Regional Geographic Information System the planning agency started. Cascade also has been involved in the council’s cooperation committee.

Cascade Township is located in southeastern Kent County and is home to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Trustee Sandra Frost Parrish will represent the township on the Metro Council board.

GVMC Chairman Jim Buck said he was pleased to have Cascade in the fold.

“As a non-member, Cascade has been a participant in many of our activities,” he said. “We look forward to the input and perspective they will add to the organization.”
