The face of the Grand Rapids waterfront is changing for the umpteenth time in the last 150 years as the Grand Center gradually morphs into DeVos Place and works its way north into the broad pit that once was the foundation of the police station.
And now — as when the station was erected and in all that went before it — big dusty, roaring projects such as this take place only after thousands of quiet, meticulous hours of engineering, the practical application of science to the real, and growing, world.
