HOLLAND — Trendway Corp. capped off a major initiative begun nearly a year ago with the formal dedication last week of its new seating plant in Holland.

The dedication represented the final stage in the creation of InterTrend Seating, Trendway CEO Don Heeringa said.

InterTrend is a joint venture formed in June 2001 between Holland-based Trendway and Germany’s Interstuhl Buromobel GmbH, a leading European seating manufacturer.

InterTrend began production in February on five seating lines — two were existing products Trendway makes, and the other three are Interstuhl seating products adapted for the North American market.

The new product line has met a “high level of enthusiasm” in the marketplace, Heeringa said.

The joint venture gave Interstuhl instant access to the North America market, while providing Trendway a partner with the expertise it needed in product development and engineering to jump deeper into the office seating segment of the office furniture industry.

InterTrend will look to develop and produce new seating designs in the future, as well as adapt additional Interstuhl products now sold in Europe for the North American market, Trendway Marketing Director Susan Zalnis said.

“They certainly have many others we can choose from,” Zalnis said.
