GRAND RAPIDS — Duke Suwyn, who has served as president of Grubb & Ellis/Paramount here for the past year, now is the firm's local chief executive officer.

The announcement came late last month from Bill Bowling, founder of the Grand Rapids-based commercial real estate brokerage firm.

Suwyn served as president of the firm during the year 2000 and as its vice president during 1998 and 1999.

Suwyn will continue as the firm's industrial group leader and a partner, and Bowling will continue serving as chairman and will be further expanding his duties as an office group specialist and as the company's "rainmaker."

In a release to the media, Bowling said Suwyn's appointment as president last year and as CEO this year "further reflects Duke's level of quality and professionalism."

Last year, the Grubb & Ellis company (NYSE: GBE) accorded both Suwyn and Bowling membership in its Circle of Excellence, a professional honor.

The company presents the award annually to the top 10 percent of revenue-generating professionals, also based on criteria for high standards of excellence, including personal professionalism, continuing education and community service.

Suwyn holds the National Association of Realtors CCIM designation (for Certified Commercial Investment Member) and is the current chair of the Commercial Industrial Committee of the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors.

He also has earned the SIOR industrial designation awarded by the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, an international professional association of commercial real estate brokers.

Bowling said, "In working with Duke throughout the years and seeing his strength of leadership, concern for the client and the great relationship he has with our entire team and the entire brokerage community, it was clear he was destined for success.

"We are honored to have such a concerned, knowledgeable and community-oriented person as our leader."

"Right now," Suwyn said, "my focus will be on serving our clients.

"This also includes serving as a mentor and facilitator for our continuing education program.  We have a great teamwork environment here that is very unique to our industry and the backbone of our success.

"This type of system, along with our education and on-going industry research into this ever-changing industry, directly supports our focus on customer service."

As an affiliate of Grubb & Ellis, one of the nation's largest commercial real estate services firm, Grubb & Ellis/Paramount serves West Michigan from Traverse City to Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.

All told Grubb & Ellis reports having nearly 8,000 people serving in 200 offices in 27 countries serving 90 markets.
