North Monroe Tie Up Is Moving North
The good news is that the intersection of Monroe and Michigan now is open.
The bad news is that construction of the 108-inch sanitary sewer which closed the intersection now is moving north. It will obstruct Monroe Avenue's southbound lanes between Trowbridge and the U.S. Postal Service's loading docks until sometime in September.
Monroe's northbound lanes will give access to the USPS docks, loading docks at the Grand Rapids Press and, north of it, to Quality Auto Service. The city engineer said people who use the Monroe parking lots can expect to find their pedestrian routes to work changing from time to time.
A separate water main construction project getting underway next week will reduce Monroe traffic to two lanes between Trowbridge and the Sixth Street bridge approaches.
