GRAND RAPIDS — GLIMA West will hold a panel discussion at its March meeting tonight, entitled “Portal Technology For the Enterprise.”

At 6 p.m. tonight, at Noto’s Old World Italian Dining, 6660 28th St. SE, GLIMA West, the Interactive Association of Michigan, will host the appetizer reception, networking session and discussion featuring panelists with leading portal vendors such as BEA, SunONE, Oracle, Microsoft and IBM.

The panel will discuss breaking down the barriers of the intranet, extranet and Internet and how portals reduce the complexity of administering applications and lower costs of both building and supporting applications.

The panel will also address the limitations of the portal and areas where other tools are possibly better suited.

“As much as portal technology is being widely adopted, it is just as much widely misunderstood,” said Darren Brown, president of GLIMA West. “It is important for IT managers and other decision makers to have a clear understanding of the role of the portal in the enterprise infrastructure, as well as the benefits one can expect.”

The cost to attend the event is $10 for GLIMA West and GLIMA members and $20 for the general public. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by emailing meeting@glimawest.org or by calling 954-9826.
