Ferris Names Eisler President
The board was expected to announce its decision at its regular meeting today, but according to Board of Trustees Chair Bruce Parsons, the two parties reached an agreement quickly.
“We are pleased that Dr. Eisler has accepted the presidency of Ferris State,” said Parsons. “With so much anticipation throughout the campus community and in the media, it’s great to be able to move up the timeline of this announcement.”
The board is expected to review and authorize the chair of the board to execute the employment agreement with Eisler at its meeting today.
Eisler is currently provost, vice president for academic affairs and professor of music at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He holds a doctorate from the University of Michigan in clarinet performance; a master’s from Yale University in clarinet performance with a music history/theory minor; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in clarinet performance as a woodwind specialist with his music teaching credential for K-12 schools.
Prior to his work at Weber State, he served in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities including coordinator of instrumental music at Troy State University; director of graduate studies in music at Troy State and assistant dean of the School of Fine Arts at Troy State. And just before joining Weber State, Eisler was the dean of the College of Fine Arts and professor of music at Eastern New Mexico University.
When asked about his feelings on the relationship between his musical training and his administrative expertise, Eisler explained that the skills are transferable.
“My work as VPAA and provost at Weber State is not so different from working with the band — you need to bring many different people and parts together to perform as one,” he said.
Further details on Eisler’s appointment will be made public as they are finalized.
