GRAND RAPIDS — The Farmers Charity Classic will swing into town next week Monday at Egypt Valley Country Club and this year it brings some big name golfers who will be visiting the area for the first time.

Hale Irwin, Craig Stadler, Ray Floyd and rookie D.A. Wiebring will all be playing in the tournament this year for the first time.

“These are the stars of golf, these are great names that haven’t been here in the past,” said Lance Hartman, executive director of the Farmers Charity Classic. “We hope that those names, combined with the great list of golfers we are having, will increase ticket sales.”

Hartman said throughout the year representatives from the Farmers Charity Classic are out talking to players and selling them on the Grand Rapids tournament. And with senior players having an allotted number of tournaments they can play in each year, Hartman is glad they have chosen Grand Rapids.

He added that the committee has already begun construction on the course and it is staring to look and feel like a tournament.

With the Pro-Am sold out for Wednesday and Thursday Hartman sees promise in this year’s tournament. This is his first year as executive director.

“With this being my first year things are going very well and I am very pleased with the field and the course,” said Hartman. “We are ahead of par in years past and still going strong. We hope for nice weather and hope that everyone comes out to enjoy a week of golf.”

Hartman said tickets are available through Tickets Plus, www.ticketsplus.net, or by calling (800) 585-3737. Tickets are $20 for an any day pass, $35 for a weeklong pass or $100 for a clubhouse pass. Corporate tickets are available by calling David Klein at 949-8412, Ext. 2. More information on the Farmer’s Charity Classic is available at www.farmerscharityclassic.com
