Meanwhile Herman Miller, of Zeeland, won top honors for its new Mirra office chair, and Nucraft Furniture Co., of Comstock Park, received recognition for a new conference table.

Steelcase received a Gold Award in the Files and Storage category for the new Universal Storage, a freestanding storage system that consists of an assortment of adaptable products.

The company's new Pathways Technology Wall, an architectural system that delivers data and power connections to workstations, won a Silver Award in the Furniture Systems category in the 2003 Best of NeoCon Awards.

Steelcase companies also won four Gold Awards and two silvers.

Other Silver Awards for Steelcase companies were The Designtex Group's Hammered Metal wall treatment and Details' Underline light in the Lighting category.

For Herman Miller, the Best of NeoCon design competition brought recognition for the new Mirra chair that the firm offers as a lower-priced complement to the popular Aeron chair introduced to the market nine years ago.

Mirra received a Gold Award for Herman Miller in the Desk/Workstation/Task Seating category.

Nucraft Furniture Co. last year won NeoCon's prestigious Best of Competition Award with its Origin Furniture System. This year the Comstock Park firm brought home a Gold Award in the Electrified Tables category for its new Avid table.

Nucraft Furniture Co.'s entry this year was what it calls the "Swiss Army Knife" of conference tables.

The firm said that the table's look can range from "ultra high-tech" to boardroom conservative.

This year's Best of NeoCon awards, sponsored by Contract magazine, the International Interior Design Association and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., drew 254 entries, 64 of which received recognition.
