GRAND RAPIDS — Members of the Grand Valley Metro Council are expected to vote today on whether to make Donald Stypula the new executive director of the regional planning agency.

Stypula currently serves as the manager of transportation and environmental affairs for the Michigan Municipal League, which represents the state’s cities and villages. Stypula, who emerged from a field of 65 applicants, has been involved with public-sector issues for nearly three decades.

“We feel Don brings many strengths to the table and we look forward to continuing GVMC’s legacy under his leadership,” said Rockford City Manager Michael Young, who chaired the search committee.

“We are fortunate to be able to recommend a candidate who is the caliber of Don Stypula,” said GVMC Chairman Jim Buck, also mayor of Grandville.

If selected, Stypula would replace Jerry Felix, who resigned from the council to take a position in commercial real estate. Felix directed the Metro Council for 11 years before leaving in May.
