GRAND RAPIDS — It seems law is not the only thing Warner Norcross & Judd LLP is good at.

The firm was just named one of the most tech savvy law firms in the country.

According to a new survey conducted by BTI Consulting Group, the Grand Rapids law firm was one of only two law firms in the state, and the only firm in West Michigan, to earn a place on the BTI Tech Savvy Team.

“Warner is extremely pleased to be recognized by our clients and by BTI Consulting as a tech savvy law firm,” said Alex DeYonker, managing partner of WN&J.

“The firm is committed to providing prompt, proactive legal service and practical business advice to our clients, and we rely on leading-edge technology to deliver these services in an efficient and cost effective manner.”

BTI, a Boston-based market research firm in the legal and professional services area, interviewed more than 215 general counsel at Global 1000 companies to determine which law firms are best at using technology in delivering their services.

The 2003 BTI list features 63 law firms from around the country who were identified by clients as being savvy in their use of technology to share information, facilitate communication and streamline the legal management process.

The use of extranets or secure, collaborative networks that share information, ranked as the primary factor behind a law firm’s inclusion on the technology list.

BTI also found that clients were looking for a variety of other technological solutions from their law firms, including:

  • Database management capabilities, particularly to track and manage litigation in a centralized manner

  • Custom research tools

  • Specialized information technology (IT) solutions for clients’ internal management needs

  • Compelling, to-the-minute e-mail newsletters

  • Detailer, user-friendly Web sites.
