Cooperation Board Announces Grants

GRAND RAPIDS — The Urban Cooperation Board will announce 23 grant recipients during a press conference at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Aug.  6, at Ada Township Park.

The board will reveal details of $272,018 in first-year grant awards and $118,000 from previous years’ commitments.

Applications were judged on the extent to which their project would have an impact across municipal boundaries, affect regional cooperation and/or eliminate regional disparities. Focus is on eight areas of interest, including:

  • Purchase of development rights

  • Housing and human services

  • Recreational or cultural activities or facilities

  • Planning activities

  • Brownfield redevelopment

  • Transportation

  • Disaster recovery

  • Emergency services

The nine communities that form the UCB, Ada Township, Cascade Charter Township, City of East Grand Rapids, City of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Charter Township, City of Kentwood, Tallmadge Charter Township, City of Walker and Wright Township, have pooled funds to promote these common, region-wide purposes.
