GRAMs Campaign Passes Mark
Museum officials said the fund is now well over half way there with the donation of gifts of $5 million from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation, $1 million from the Frey Foundation and $1 million from the Daniel and Pamella DeVos Foundation.
“Our community has a longstanding tradition of philanthropy and there is consensus that a beautiful new art museum will be a great cultural asset to the entire region,” said Kate Pew Wolters, campaign co-chair.
“I’m very proud of the response to this campaign effort and particularly pleased by the strong response of next generation foundations such as the Daniel and Pamella DeVos Foundation.”
Over the past seven years, museum attendance has doubled due to a strong exhibition program that has won recognition and the support of local philanthropists.
“The DeVos and Frey family foundations have generously supported our exhibition and education programs in recent years, but these capital gifts are truly exceptional and will elevate the museum to a new level of artistic quality and service to a growing community,” said Celeste Adams, museum director.
To push the capital campaign further towards its goal, a corporate campaign will commence in September with a gift of $1 million from Meijer Inc. already in place.
The campaign for the new 100,000-square-foot facility located at Monroe Center began with a $20 million lead gift from the Wege Foundation and a $2.5 million gift of land from the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in 2001. DQF Foundation responded with a $1 million gift for endowment.
London-based architects Munkenbeck and Marshall created a design for the new museum that was unveiled to the public in April. The capital campaign goal includes $55 million for construction costs and $13 million for operating endowment with a $25 million long-term goal.
