GRAND RAPIDS — Nancy Skinner & Associates and Varnum Consulting LLC have merged and say that linking executive coaching with strategic communications provides better human resources services.

Carl Oosterhouse, managing director of Varnum Consulting, said the merger creates a unique organization offering an “exceptional” combination of talent, expertise and value.

Nancy Skinner, president of Nancy Skinner & Associates, termed the merger an exciting opportunity “to offer broader services to our clients through experts in other consulting areas.”

Skinner & Associates specialized for 20 years in executive coaching, leadership development, sales and communications training. Its clientele includes Cascade Engineering, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Herman Miller, Johnson Controls, Kellogg Co., Siemens Dematic and Spectrum Health.

Varnum Consulting, formed two years ago, provides human resources services, strategic communication and organization development counseling. The company is owned by Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett, the city’s largest law firm. Twenty advisors at Varnum Consulting work in the areas of human resources, risk management, trust administration and strategic communications.

“Nancy Skinner & Associates has been a client of Varnum Consulting LLC since its inception,” Skinner said. “We experienced first hand the benefits of these trusted and essential advisors.”

The two companies began working together immediately after last month’s merger was complete. Nancy Skinner & Associates soon will move from its 28th Street location to join Varnum Consulting in Bridgewater Place, 333 Bridge St. NW.
