GRAND RAPIDS — A merger announced yesterday will create one of the larger independent brokerage firms in the area.

Royal Securities Co., which is located in Grandville, and Kent King Securities, which is headquartered in downtown Grand Rapids, merged to create a firm with 33 financial consultants.

Royal’s William Kapteyn Jr. will serve as president of the merged firm while John Worst, former president and owner of Kent King, will stay on as branch manager of the downtown office.

Kent King brings almost 70 years of experience in professional portfolio management, institutional bond trading and fixed income securities, while Royal has more than 20 years of experience in retirement planning advice, wealth management, 401(k) rollovers and estate planning services.
