Alticor To Oversee New Hotel
The two families finalized purchase of the Isreal’s furniture store site in October, and Alticor expects to break ground on the new hotel in 2005, with a grand opening in 2007.
Bert Crandell, who served the company most recently as chief marketing officer worldwide, will oversee the hotel project.
A team of executives from Alticor’s hotel management, legal, marketing, communications and other related divisions will lead the project, according to the company.
The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, just across the street from the future hotel, is a subsidiary of Alticor.
The DeVos and Van Andel families also manage the Courtyard by Marriot hotel in Plaza Towers downtown.
“We’ve been in the hotel business in Grand Rapids for quite some time now and we believe we can assemble the necessary resources to get the job done,” President Doug DeVos said in a prepared statement.
“Our historical involvement in downtown makes it logical for Alticor to take the lead on this project.”
