Midwest Shoppers Spend Less
According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 95 percent of all Midwest consumers will do some Christmas shopping this season.
And they will spend an average of $490 on gifts for family members, friends, co-workers and others.
Their spending average will be $27 less than the national average.
Here is the holiday spending average across four gift categories for shoppers in the four regions, and the nation as a whole, and the total they plan to spend.
- Midwest — Family, $388; Friends,$60; Co-workers, $13; Others, $29; Total, $490
- Northeast — Family, $490; Friends, $425; Co-workers, $20; Others, $37; Total, $575
- South — Family, $396; Friends, $73; Co-workers, $18; Others, $35; Total, $522
- Southwest — Family, $373; Friends, $70; Co-workers, $15; Others, $37; Total, $495
