GRAND RAPIDS — Area designers and local professionals will volunteer their time tonight in the spirit of the holiday season.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Geiger, Herman Miller and other area interior design companies will host “We Care,” a special holiday event for underprivileged children that will include entertainment, snacks and a visit from Santa Claus.

Area professionals have volunteered to help the kids make cards and gifts for family and friends, tonight from 5:15-8 p.m. at the Van Andel Arena.

This year marks the seventh anniversary of “We Care,” which held its first observance in Chicago in 1997. This year the event takes place in 17 cities across North America, with the strong support of more than 150 design firms, corporate sponsors and individuals.

Representatives from Boys and Girls Clubs, Geiger, Herman Miller and area design firms will be on hand to discuss the importance of sharing the spirit of the season with kids less fortunate.
