Group Honors McCorkle
McCorkle is president and CEO of Saint Mary’s Mercy Medical Center.
The organization confers the honor each year to a resident who, it says, exemplifies community leadership and service.
In presenting the award last night DeVos Place, Kevin Stotts said McCorkle is “recognized throughout Grand Rapids for his work in Grand Rapids.”
Stotts is executive director of Leadership Grand Rapids, a community leadership development program of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
McCorkle has been president and CEO of Saint Mary’s since spring 2002 and currently is overseeing construction of the Richard J. Lacks Sr. Cancer Center, a five-story hospital that is to open this fall on Saint Mary’s campus.
Upon that opening, the work of Saint Mary’s own new cancer center will fold into the operations of the 180,000-square-foot Lacks Center.
As the Lacks project has proceeded, McCorkle has helped raise millions of dollars while also spearheaded the opening the first Parkinson’s Disease Center in West Michigan as part of Saint Mary’s vision of integrated medical care. Meanwhile, he has bolstered Saint Mary’s neuroscience program and overseen the hospital’s Center of Diabetes and Endocrinology, which has close ties to the National Kidney Foundation.
According to Leadership Grand Rapids, McCorkle chairs the Access and Oversight Committee for the Michigan Health and Hospital Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and he chairs the Consumer Accountability Action Council for the Hospital Council of Western Michigan.
He is a trustee for the Michigan Community Blood Centers, the chamber of commerce, Hospice of Michigan and West Michigan Ronald McDonald House.
The mission of Leadership Grand Rapids, now 18 years old, is to create an informed, committed and diverse network of leaders in the community.
