GRAND RAPIDS — The LoCarb Center, which has franchises in Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo and Florida, has opened a retail store in Grand Rapids.

The store, located at 2055 28th St. SE in the Grand Central Plaza, features approximately 700 low-carbohydrate products, including bars, pastas, sauces, breads, chips, cereals, candy, dressings, muffins, ice cream and frozen foods.

The store is owned and operated by Frank Spadafore and his sons, Joe, Mike and Nick. The Grand Rapids store is the fourth addition to the franchise. The Spadafore family previously owned three grocery stores, Spad’s Pizza and West Side Deli.

“After losing 25 pounds on a low-carb diet, I asked myself what I could do to help others in their weight-loss battles. Opening The LoCarb Center was just the answer,” said Frank Spadafore. “Low-carb stores have been successful throughout the country, so why not in Grand Rapids?”

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
