GR Ranked State’s Worst Sports City

GRAND RAPIDS — According to The Sporting News, ComstockPark is a better sports market than Grand Rapids

ComstockPark, home to the West Michigan Whitecaps and Grand Rapids Thunder, was ranked at No. 323 on a list of North America's Best Sports Cities for 2004 as compiled by the magazine.

Sporting News ranked GR at No. 363 in a field of 368 for the lowest ranking of any city in Michigan and third lowest ranking in the country. Hershey, Pa., and Springfield, Mass., were the only U.S. cities rated lower than GR. Three Canadian cities — Winnipeg, St. John's, and Saint John — occupied the bottom three spots.

Other Michigan cities making the list and their rankings were: Detroit (7th), East Lansing (69th), Kalamazoo (97th), Mount Pleasant (125th), Battle Creek (315th), and Lansing (345th). Ann Arbor was included in the Detroit market.

The Sporting News named Boston as the No. 1 sports city in North America.
