GRAND RAPIDS — The Goodwill Industries of Grand Rapids Foundation will honor four individuals who represent the mission of Goodwill at 6:30 p.m. tonight at DeVos Place as part of the organization’s first Power of Work Awards.

The bi-annual event will honor the lives of two former Goodwill presidents, Lauren Wondergem and Tina Hartley-Malivuk. In their memory Goodwill will present two awards: the Tina Hartley Outstanding Participant Award, which will be presented to Daniel Thue, a job coach assistant at Goodwill Industries, and the Lauren Wondergem Distinguished Business Partner Award, which will be given to Fred Keller, president and CEO of Cascade Engineering.

Suzanne Geha of WOOD TV8 will emcee the event, with Mayor George Heartwell offering the invocation. The evening’s special guest is George Kessinger, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International.

“We are excited for the opportunity to have George Kessinger visiting Grand Rapids to speak at our event,” said Phillip Weaver, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids. “This is a special evening for the Goodwill family. We are pleased to have so many people coming out in support of our mission.”

Contributions to the Power of Work Awards will go to the newly established Hartley-Wondergem Memorial Fund, which will provide job training and placement services for individuals who come to Goodwill without a funding source.
