The Dunkers are at it again, promoting their annual roast and charity auction featuring their very own brand of, shall we say, offbeat humor. Here, the auction committee considers a “bobblehead talking doll” likeness of Mayor George Heartwell.

The unique treasure comes equipped with 17 strings, and when each is pulled, the bobblehead says, “Gee, isn’t that nice?”

Members of the auction committee are, from left, Judge Sara Smolenski, Charles Buffham, James Booth Burr Jr., Terry Fenech and Charles T. Zimmerman.

The annual event, purported to mark the 65th anniversary of the group, takes place somewhere around 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, in the Eberhard Center of Grand Valley State University’s downtown campus.

Seating toward the rear of the room fills up first, so arrive early. For more on the fundraiser, at which the only thing taken seriously is the charities involved, see the Dec. 6 Street Talk column.
