GRAND RAPIDS — Cascade Engineering entered into a joint venture today with Surge Medical to develop and distribute cardiovascular medical devices and accessories.

The new company, Surge Medical Solutions LLC, will serve heart surgeons throughout the country from its base in Holland — also the home base for Surge Medical.

“This partnership reflects our goal of building a sustainable business that positively impacts the environment, the community and our organizations as a whole,” said Fred Keller, chairman and CEO of Cascade Engineering.

“Cascade Engineering has always looked for emerging opportunities to grow our business into markets that expand our manufacturing initiatives and push our organization to develop creative solutions,” added Keller.

Cascade Engineering initiated a health-care market diversification strategy a year ago looking for growth opportunities. Research shows that the health-care market has grown 2.5 times faster than the nation’s Gross Domestic Product and faster than most other markets.

“Over the past few years we have been looking for an advanced design and manufacturing partner to expand our operations. Cascade Engineering is an outstanding organization with a history of innovation, and we couldn’t be happier about this opportunity,” said Ron DeVries, president of Surge Medical.

Surge Medical is currently designing and developing cardiovascular surgical tools and manufacturing is scheduled to begin in a few months.
