GRAND RAPIDS — Michigan Works! Kent & Allegan Counties will host a free employer seminar tomorrow at Western Michigan University’s downtown Grand Rapids campus.

Aimed at helping business owners, company presidents, senior work force managers and human resources professionals address pressing workplace issues ranging from globalization and training to controlling health-care costs and addressing diversity, the program will feature Richard Hadden as keynote speaker, co-author of “Contented Cows Give Better Milk: The Plain Truth About Employee Relations and Your Bottom Line.”

Hadden has been lauded for his ability to help companies keep employees committed and productive in order to benefit a company’s bottom line. He writes a column for American City Business Journals entitled “People and Profits;” has appeared on CNN, MSNBC and Fox; has been featured on National Public Radio and in the pages of Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, and Workforce Management, among other publications.

“Business is about profits,” Hadden said. “While positively treating employees is the right thing to do, treating them right means a better bottom line. I look forward to sharing with West Michigan how some of the nation’s best employers have become more profitable by creating a great place to work.”

Win Irwin, chairman of the board for Michigan Works! Kent & Ottawa Counties, said, “This is a must-attend event for West Michigan business leaders. It’s amazing that we’re able to put this seminar on for free for business leaders.”

In addition to the keynote address, the seminar includes six breakout sessions, including presentations on education development, globalization and a panel discussion on health-care costs.

The program runs from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
