Board Approves Charity Event

GRAND RAPIDS — The Convention and Arena Authority will host its second charity event next spring with all proceeds going to Gilda’s Club, St. John’s Home and Hope on the Hill.

A date and theme for the event hasn’t been set yet, but board members agreed at their May meeting to proceed with plans. Two years ago, the CAA hosted a 1950s and 1960s music review at Van Andel Arena that raised $85,000 for the Hope on the Hill Fund at Van Andel Institute and Gilda’s Club. The next charity event could be held in the new ballroom at

DeVos Place
, the city’s convention center.

“We’ve had so much support from the community throughout the

DeVos Place
expansion project. We’re excited to give back to the community by supporting local charities. Not will only those attending the event be supporting a worthy cause, but they’ll be sure to have a great time,” said CAA Chairman Steve Heacock.

The CAA oversees operations at

DeVos Place
and the arena. SMG, which is putting the charity event together, manages the daily operations of both buildings.
