GRAND RAPIDS — As of today, Mercantile Bank of West Michigan will be known as Mercantile Bank of Michigan.

The name change only reflects the bank’s geographic expansion into markets beyond West Michigan, said President and CEO Michael Price.

Mercantile opened a full-service banking center in Holland in October 2004. In mid-April the company announced its intension to expand into the Lansing market and in June announced plans to expand its service area to Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor banking center will mark Mercantile’s eighth office and its first on the east side of the state.

Each banking center outside the metro Grand Rapids area has a bank president representing that city, Price noted.

“As we enter the Lansing and Ann Arbor markets, we need to assure our customers that Mercantile Bank of Michigan is looking out for their best interests … locally,” he said. “Decisions made at those financial centers are made locally, by the same people who have built these relationships with their customers.”
