GRAND RAPIDS — Mark London is back in the downtown strip club business.

London, the owner of the former Sennett Steel building, 234 Market Ave. SW, had hoped to sell the site to a developer who is attempting to garner approximately 30 acres of land south of Van Andel Arena for an as yet undisclosed project.

London had agreed to sell the site of his Showgirls Galleria complex, but the deal fell through today.

At a press conference this afternoon, London said he didn’t know what had changed over the last 15 days, but the agreed-upon time limit for a transaction had passed. He said previously he expected to keep a $100,000 down payment he received. He also claimed to have a deal from the mystery developer that paid him $20,000 for each day the deal didn’t close, up until today.

London said he had spoken to representatives of Grubb & Ellis/Paramount, the commercial real estate firm working with the developer to secure the land, as late as 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, but nothing could be worked out.

He said this afternoon that he plans to continue with plans for the downtown strip club.
