GRMERC Gets Interim Chief
GRAND RAPIDS — As its former president and CEO heads out of town, the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center has named an interim replacement. Longtime Grand Valley State University dean and professor P. Douglas Kindschi will fill the leadership role at the educational consortium until a permanent replacement is found.
Kindschi was involved in the creation of GRMERC and has remained active with the operations of its board of directors throughout this decade.
As preparations are made for the move to Grand Rapids of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, GRMERC’s role in the health care education system is becoming more important than ever, according to Dr. Lowell Bursch, chairman of GRMERC’s board of directors.
“Dr. Kindschi is an experienced leader and one who can guide us through this transition period,” Bursch said in a written statement. “Medical education in Grand Rapids is at the forefront of everyone’s mind right now. Dr. Kindschi’s leadership will be very important as medical education and research continue to expand in Grand Rapids.”
Kindschi will begin his role with GRMERC immediately, taking a leave of absence from his professorial duties at GVSU. He will retain his post there as provost of health professions.
