Hospitals Earn Accolades
GRAND RAPIDS — Michigan posted 16 hospitals in Solucient’s Top 100 Hospitals National Benchmarks for Success study for 2006.
More than half of the hospitals recognized are in the Midwest, according to Solucient, an information products company owned by Stamford, Conn.-based Thomson Healthcare. In its annual review, Solucient measured 2,800 hospitals on nine key points: risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, patient safety, core measures average, growth in patient volume, severity-adjusted average length of stay, expense per adjusted discharge, profit from operations and cash-to-debt ratio.
West Michigan hospitals that ranked in the top 100 were Metro Health Hospital, Grand Rapids; Hackley Hospital, Muskegon; Mercy General Health Partners, Muskegon; Holland Hospital, Holland; Munson Medical Center, Traverse City; and Pennock Hospital, Hastings.
The study found that the top hospitals’ median total profit margin was nearly three times that of peer hospitals. Salaries and benefits were $3,200 more a year per full-time staff member at benchmark hospitals.
