New Offices Planned For SE GR

GRAND RAPIDS — The Rockford Development Group and The Hinman Company plan to jointly develop a new office building in the Glenwood Hills Office Park along I-96 near the M-6 junction.

The property is the last parcel available in Glenwood Hills and the office building could offer as much as 150,000 square feet.

“We’ve been in the development business for 30 years. Seldom do you see parcels of land this desirable and still vacant. We see enormous potential in this development opportunity,” said Kirt Ojala, regional director of leasing and property for The Hinman Co.

Rockford Development bought the property from Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2004 when the health insurer moved from Glenwood Hills to the former Steketee Department Store in downtown Grand Rapids, a building owned by Rockford Development.

The Glenwood Hills parcel has sat vacant for the last two decades. The two firms have been discussing the possibility of developing the site for the better part of two years.

“The marked growth in this area of Grand Rapids tells us the time is right to make this land available,” said Mike Maier, president of Rockford Development.

Rockford Development and The Hinman Co. have formed Glenwood Development Partners LLC for the project. Rockford Construction Co. will manage construction of the new office structure, while Hinman will lease the space and manage the building.
