City Backs PUD Request
GRAND RAPIDS—City commissioners gave Gilda’s Club the OK to expand last week, as they amended the organization’s Planned Unit Development zoning classification.
Gilda’s Club, which provides support and counseling services to cancer patients and their families, can enlarge its office space, add a storage building and parking spaces, and double the number of events it holds each year to a dozen.
A group of neighbors fought the expansion by arguing that Gilda’s Club had grown large enough, and another expansion would add traffic congestion and parking problems to the residential area. The amendment was the third Gilda’s Club received since the city granted the organization its initial PUD in 1998.
Gilda’s Club is at 1806 Bridge St. NW.
