GRAND RAPIDS — The Inner City Christian Federation, a nonprofit housing corporation, recently moved into its new headquarters at 920 Cherry St. SE, the former D.A. Blodgett Home for Children.

The $9 million renovation took 22 months to complete and involved demolishing interior and exterior portions of the building and restoring much of the structure’s terra-cotta. The state Office of Historic Preservation has identified the work as the most complete terra-cotta restoration project in Michigan

“The 920 Cherry restoration is among the most important projects our company has ever done,” said Michael VanGessel, president of Rockford Construction, which managed the work.

Cornerstone Architects designed the restoration.
