GRAND RAPIDS — The JW Marriott Grand Rapids recently received an “Opening of the Year” award from Marriott International. The new $100 million hotel was one of seven Marriott properties worldwide to earn this recognition.

According to a news release, the new hotel is also experiencing signs of early success. General Manager George Aquino said the hotel has surpassed its occupancy projections by 12 percent and is exceeding its average daily rate by 20 percent. Its restaurant and catered event service have more than doubled revenue projections. To address this increased demand, the hotel recently hired an additional 80 associates.

“The opening of our new hotel has far exceeded every expectation. We are thrilled to receive such an honor from Marriott International, especially at a time when we are experiencing incredible success,” said Aquino. “It’s a wonderful tribute to the many dedicated individuals who made this hotel possible.”
