Virgin Soil Hits Pay Dirt
GRAND RAPIDS — The Downtown Development Authority awarded a building-reuse improvement grant last week to Virgin Soil Development to help the firm make upgrades to 56 Monroe Center.
Virgin Soil, owned by Brice Bossardet, plans to convert the second and third floors of the building into eight condominiums. The ground floor is home to the XO Asian Cuisine restaurant. The building is across the street from another condo conversion that Virgin Soil is doing at 65 Monroe Center, a former Central Bank office.
Virgin Soil told the DDA it would invest $95,000 into improvements that qualify for funding, such as a fire suppression system and ADA compliance issues, and the board agreed to cover half that cost with a grant worth $47,500.
