Streetcar Study Route Selected
GRAND RAPIDS — The Public Transportation Tomorrow Taskforce voted Thursday to select a specific route for The Rapid’s streetcar feasibility study — a route on Market and Monroe, from Newberry south to Goodrich and into Rapid Central Station.
According to The Rapid, the taskforce chose that particular route for continued study based on its economic development potential, its connection to major existing venues, plus preliminary construction estimates and operational considerations, including street grade and vehicle maneuverability.
The taskforce will now review the route’s economic development potential, projected ridership, construction costs and possible funding sources. The taskforce expects to present its final recommendations to the Interurban Transit Partnership Board in June.
