The Fifth Annual Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes Inc. Stock Market Challenge was held March 4, attracting 152 students from 12 West Michigan high schools. The ballroom in WegeCenter at AquinasCollege was transformed into a stock market trading floor through a computer simulation that condensed 60 trading days into two hours. Each team of four begins with a $500,000 portfolio and is given the opportunity to invest and trade to try to increase their net worth. The goal of each team is to accumulate the highest possible net worth in their investment portfolio prior to the close of trading. Pictured is the first-place team from Plymouth Christian, consisting of, from left, Dan Roseboom, Shane Demeester, Nate Kamp and Matt Beintema. There also was an evening event of adult teams from area companies, who through their participation help to support the high school event and other Junior Achievement programs.
