HOLLAND — Holland Hospital announced last week that it has introduced digital mammography machines.

Digital mammography provides better images for women with dense breast tissue. It also allows doctors to see and manipulate the image via computer. Women may find that mammography appointments may be shorter because they don’t have to wait for film development as they do with the older X-ray film technology.

The digital units include two at the Center for Women’s Health and Wellness on South Washington and one at the Medical Imaging Center on the Lakeshore Medical Campus.

“Switching from traditional mammography to digital is a step the community has been requesting,” said Michael Stock, director of radiology services.
