City To Buy Parcel
GRAND RAPIDS — City commissioners gave Parking Services the green light last week to buy a 23,230-square-foot parcel near the southeast corner of Commerce Avenue and Weston Street SW in the Heartside Business District for a 360-space parking ramp.
Parking Services will buy the property from 38 Commerce LLC for nearly $1.7 million. The ramp, which has been estimated to cost $9 million to build, will be part of the “Linear Buildings” project targeted for Commerce and Weston, a 68,000-square-foot development across two buildings with office, retail and residential spaces.
Parking Services will pay $1.2 million for the parcel, with the Downtown Development Authority picking up the remaining $470,000.
Locus Development LLC is the parent firm of 38 Commerce. Locus Development made its debut less than two weeks ago when John Green and Andy Winkel merged their businesses, Elevation Group and Kelwin Properties, respectively, into the new company.
