GRAND RAPIDS — American Education Group has added a Mariettta, Ga., school to its roster.

The Grand Rapids-based private education firm acquired Shreiner Academy, a preschool through eighth grade school near Atlanta. AEG now has 11 facilities and four education organizations.

Shreiner Academy was established by the Shreiner family in 1980. Founder David Shreiner and Sharon Wilensky, director, will stay with the school.

AEG, funded last year by a $40 million investment from private equity firms Winona Capital Management and Chicago Growth Partners, aims to become the leading provider of innovative private education in the U.S. The company already owns Barnstable Academy in New Jersey, Tampa Day School in Florida and Little Sprouts Inc. in Massachusetts.

“Before our first private school acquisition a year ago, we identified a group of well-respected, high-performing private schools throughout the country that fit well with our core values and vision, and Shreiner was certainly on our short list,” said AEG President Peter Ruppert.
