Ford International attracts low-cost carrier
Gerald R. Ford International Airport finally has a low-cost carrier to serve the region: Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is moving its flight operations from the Lansing Capital City Airport to Ford International and will begin offering nonstop flights from Grand Rapids to Orlando and Tampa Bay on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, respectively.
The airline will fly between Ford International and Orlando-Sanford International Airport on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday each week. Flights will depart Grand Rapids at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Orlando at 3:50 p.m. For Tampa Bay service, flights will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, departing Grand Rapids at 11:40 a.m. and arriving at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport at 2:25 p.m. Allegiant will use MD-series, jet aircraft that seat 150. For a limited time, the airline will offer one-way introductory flights for $89.
“This low fare service will play a significant role in moving us toward a balance mix of service that best meet the needs of our customers and our region,” said Kent County Aeronautics Director James Koslosky.
