Upscale retailer to anchor Orchard Hills

Upscale department store Von Maur today announced it will be the anchor store in The Village of Orchard Hills, the lifestyle center being developed at Three Mile Road and East Beltline Avenue NE by Robert B. Aikens & Associates.

Expected to open in 2011, it will be the Davenport, Iowa-based retailer’s third Michigan store, joining locations in Ann Arbor and Livonia. Currently it has 23 stores in nine states.

Von Maur Marketing Director Kelly Fjeld confirmed the company’s plan to locate in Grand Rapids.

Von Maur plans to occupy 120,000 square feet in the 400,000-square-foot development, patterned after a Rochester Hills project by Aikens, of Birmingham.

“The Village of Orchard Hills is an ideal location for Von Maur as we continue expanding our presence throughout the Midwest,” President Jim von Maur said in a statement. “Grand Rapids is a major shopping destination for those living in western Michigan, and we look forward to bringing our high quality merchandise and out standing service and benefits to this part of the state.”

Construction is planned to being in early 2010.

Von Maur offers brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Kenneth Cole, Garfield & Marks, Misook, Austin Reed, Tommy Bahama and Joseph Abboud.

It also features a “no-questions-asked” return policy.
