Released in January, Baudville’s new product line, called g-thanks, has already become the company’s No. 1 new product.

Baudville, which provides employee recognition and award products, created the g-thanks line entirely of eco-friendly products. The line is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and is manufactured strictly in the United States.

“We had strict environmental criteria in place as we developed this product line,” said Kristy Sherlund, Baudville vice president of product development. “We brought a contemporary style to these recycled products, which have made them our most popular new product line this year.”

Products in the g-thanks line include a seed tin that grows organic wheat grass, a tumbler travel mug made from a cornstarch-based material, organic green tea packaged inside a biodegradable whole leaf pouch, and postcards made from birch wood veneers.

“We really established what green means to Baudville for this product line,” said Sherlund.

“I think that’s where we started to differentiate ourselves. Our criteria was it’s recycled, recyclable, consumable — because there’s nothing like giving a gift to somebody — if they eat the nuts or drink the tea — there’s no waste and it came from the United States, which is a really big deal.

“In this promotional world, Asia has played such a big part in our business and our competitors’ business. By saying we want something from the United States, it really pushed our limits. It was almost impossible to find a really good bag that comes from the United States. While a lot of vendors provide a bag, they’re still getting them from Asia.”
