Rockford Construction joins Spain-based company to from new entity
Rockford Construction and Spain-based Bergé Logística Energética announced today the formation of Rockford Bergé, an organization combining wind farm construction with comprehensive logistical services.
The new collaboration will initially launch in Michigan with intentions to reach the entire Great Lakes region. Ten percent of Michigan’s electricity, 1,100 megawatts, must come from renewable sources, according to the state’s renewable portfolio standards mandate.
Michigan has the capability to generate more than 16,000 megawatts of power from onshore sources and 330,000 megawatts from off-shore sources, according to a recent Michigan State University study.
Bergé has extensive knowledge in the many aspects of energy infrastructure logistics which includes transporting massive turbine parts from around the world.
Rockford Bergé will be involved with the sourcing, construction and on-site management for both smaller scale wind farms and utility-scale projects. Smaller scale wind farms typically involve 150-foot high turbines that are generally located in cities or smaller communities. Utility-scale project use turbines of more than 350 feet in height.
The new organization will also offer technical support, sourcing assistance, logistics experience in rail, water and road; transporting and managing shipments of wind turbine components, as well as manage large-scale construction.
MAPA Group, based in Washington, D.C., aids multiple global suppliers in renewable energy and will also serve as a strategic partner to Rockford Bergé. MAPA will connect international manufacturers to U.S. partners to assemble, produce and locally source. Roughly half of the wind turbine parts used in the United States comes from overseas sources.
