Security operations and investigations firm DK Security of Grand Rapids has acquired the security firm Joseph A. Young & Associates of Lansing. DK Security’s revenue has grown 63 percent over the past five years and it’s anticipating a 23 percent jump upon its absorption of the Joseph A. Young company.

Combined, the two firms serve more than 200 clients throughout the state and share a collective 750 employees. Size wise, it now dominates the market as the largest full-service locally-owned security and investigations firm in the state, said DK Security President John Kendall. The company offers security and investigation services from uniformed security to executive body guards to K-9 detection and drug testing. Services include private investigations, background screening, loss prevention and an “HonorLine” anonymous tip line for employees and vendors. The purchase of Joseph A. Young & Associates added access to a full range of in-house drug testing and fingerprinting technologies, including Michigan’s only certified drug collection trainer. The Lansing company also brought school security services to the mix.

Kendall said the melding of the two firms will broaden DK Security’s service offerings, increase the company’s depth of expertise, allow for improved economies of scale and present new growth opportunities. Though 90 percent of the combined firm’s operations are in west and central Michigan, it is planning to expand in the Midwest.

DK Security has provided entertainment security services for events at the Van Andel Arena, DeVos Place, for 93.7 FM’s annual Birthday Bash and the Rothbury Festival.
