Ad Club now Ad Fed

The Ad Club is no more. Long live the American Advertising Federation of West Michigan.

OK, call it “Ad Fed West Michigan” for short, said Clare Wade, the organization’s president and head of Clare Wade Communications Inc.

“We just changed our name to make a closer connection,” Wade said. “The national organization is also promoting the AAF brand.

“Our new name forms a closer AAF brand affiliation. It also supports our strategic plan. Association with a larger, nationally known advertising and creative community can help elevate the professionalism of and recognition for our members’ advertising, design and creative leadership in West Michigan.”

Wade said the name change was approved by the local organization’s board as a bylaw change in late 2008. It will be rolled out over the next few months, she said. It already has been incorporated into the Web site at www.aafwmi.org

“It was not unusual,” she said, for the local chapters to have names different from the national organization.

The AAF is the sponsor of the well-known Addy Awards. With headquarters in Washington, D.C., the AAF has more than 40,000 professional members in 200 local chapters, as well as 7,500 students in 225 college chapters. Its national conference is planned for June in Washington.
